Creative Development, which was first opened in 2007, grew out of a combined vision to provide holistic services to children and their families.

Acknowledging that life happens 24 hours/day, seven days/week, Deanne & Lauren, who have combined over 40 years experience in the field of occupational therapy, decided to pursue their desire to help children, families and the support personnel who work with children of varying abilities on a daily basis. Their vision included and continues to thrive on individualized treatment planning. Working holistically to meet the needs of each family and to affect change where they need it the most: in the activities of everyday living in all the various contexts children participate at home and in the community.

Our staff currently provides services for individuals from infancy through adulthood, who may be struggling with their daily activities such as playing, having friendships and taking care of themselves. Children who benefit from these services may include but are not limited to: Children diagnosed with:

  • ADHD, ADD
  • autism spectrum disorders
  • neurological impairments
  • sensory processing dysfunction
  • developmental delay
  • various other impairments which impact participation in activities of daily living

We currently provide individual, school, community and group based services in and outside of our private therapy clinic.

Therapy services and programs are provided within a safe, child centered atmosphere at our clinic located at 30 Avon Meadow Lane in Avon, CT. As well, therapy services are provided at schools, homes, and other community sites in order to meet the various environmental contexts which the child and their family experience daily. Comprehensive assessments, individualized intervention programs and consultation services are designed and implemented by our highly trained staff who have expertise in a variety of holistic treatment modalities.

The Creative Development team, through high quality, innovative therapeutic programs, strives to best enhance children’s capabilities and to foster independence.

If an environment is static or unchanged, the child may quickly adapt and master the environment. Thus, it is important that the treatment environment is constantly evolving, changing, and providing opportunities for the child to grow. This is especially important for children who have difficulty with change, flexibility of thought, transitions, and social situations.
